Partition Project (ISPaD), New York
Honors Two Eminent Human Rights Activists of Bangladesh and Subcontinent
Sachi G. Dastidar
In 2022 ISPaD or Indian Subcontinent Partition Documentation Project of New York honored two eminent human rights workers of the Indian Subcontinent, especially of minorities and secularists in Bangladesh. They are Mr. Rabindra Ghosh and Mr. Shariyar Kabir, both of Bangladesh. They have been relentlessly trying to protect human for all, especially of persecuted Hindu minorities, who were the genocide victims of the military of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan during Bangladesh’s 1971 Independence War.
Both of them were victims of persecution during various regimes. Mr. Kabir had to spend months in hospital when he came under attack in early 2000s as he was heading to North Bengal of Bangladesh to protect minority Hindus. Mr. Kabir is the author of many books. While Mr. Ghosh came under attack, and his home in Chittagong was destroyed in mid-2010s by so-called secularists. Ghosh has filed hundreds of cases in Bangladesh courts seeking indigenous Hindu minority home and homesteads confiscated my thuggish and racist Muslims, filing papers for kidnapped minority Hindu girls of forced abduction and forced conversion, looking for justice against destruction of mandirs (temples) and murties (deities), filing papers of illegal confiscation of smasans (cremation areas for Hindu-Buddhist last rites), against illegal confiscation of ancestral homestead and agricultural lands, filing court papers against arrest of Hindu minorities under blasphemy laws, and much more.
Accidentally, this writer met him in Chittagong, Bangladesh, where he hand-delivered Ghosh’s citation in the presence of many human rights workers. It was a wonderful experience. Mr. Ghosh gave a brief speech at that event.
Mr. Shahriar Kabir’s citation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Sujata Ghosh Dastidar, head of Calcutta Girls’ Orphanage in Kolkata.
