Bangladesh Girls’ Orphanage (Hindu) of 1908 In a New Era

Bangladesh Girls’ Orphanage (Hindu) of 1908

In a New Era in 2022

On September of 2022 ISPaD (Partition Center of New York) was invited to the Dhaka Girls’ Orphanage (Hindu) which was established in 1908 over a century ago. Probini Foundation, now ISPaD, has been helping the orphanage providing scholarships for students. During Bangladesh’s liberation from the genocide of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and its local Islamic allies attacked the minority orphanage located on the banks of Burri Ganga river in Purana (Old) Dhaka. It is always heartwarming to see the tablet that says how the orphanage was rebuilt by distant Norwegians. On the other hand, it is difficult to imagine why not a single Muslim-majority nation – some with tons of money – came forward to rebuild the hostel, or condemn the Hindu genocide. It is also difficult to imagine why millions of East Pakistani-Bangladeshi-Hindu-Refugee-Indians who rule two Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura could not come forward to rebuild the hostel in their ancestral homeland. Shocking! Unbelievable!

Nowadays, the orphanage also takes boys who live in the lower floors of the building, with strict separation between upper and lower floors. The orphanage arranged for a wonderful lunch with rest of the residents, including teachers and workers. It created opportunities for the visitor to chat and mingle with the students, and answer their quarries. After our luncheon we headed to the residential area of Banani, barely 10 or 11 kilometers, or about 6 miles, that took over 2 and ½ hours missing my next appointment in the evening. This was an extreme example of traffic congestion in the capital, or for that matter anywhere in the world. The resident students come from poor-yet-diverse background.

            Please help the orphanage.
