On a beautiful sunny
Indian 75F winter 13th Probini Foundation Subcontinent Conference
was held in Fern Road of Ballygunge neighborhood of Kolkata (Calcutta), India.
The conference was
organized by Mr. Arindam Banerjee of the Bankura (West Bengal State) center,
and the meeting was presided over by this reporter from New York. Like before,
after general discussion each of the attending Probini-supported projects
presented their annual report followed by their future endeavors. Some of the
projects who presented their report were: Swami Vivekananda Bani Prachar
Samiti-run schools of Durgapur, Shishu Kalyan Parishad (Children’s Welfare
Association) of Kolkata, Purbachal Ananda Foundation of Bankura, Prembazar
Foundation of IIT-Kharagpur employees, and Organization for Association of Remedy (OAR)
street children association of Kolkata and Probini Foundation of New York. Bangladesh
Pranab Ashram of Pirojpur’s delegate was called at the last minute for another
work in Kolkata thus he couldn’t attend. Some of the individuals who attended
include Jayanta Biswas of Durgapur, Prof. Dr. Sujata Ghosh Dastidar of Sishu
Kalyan, Arindam Banerjee of Bankura, Bikash Biswas and Biswanath De both of
OAR, Prof. Dr. Rabindranath Chattopadhyay of Kharagpur, Mrs. Pratima Roy
Chowdhury of Kolkata who visited scores of Probini projects in Bangladesh and
India, Mrs. Sanchali Jana of Kharagpur and Mrs. Samhita Jana of Kanthi.
An intense discussion
took place as to what to do as Governments of India as well as Bangladesh have
put restrictions of accepting checks from overseas. Process for of accepting
funds has been made complicated and time consuming.
The meeting decided to
hold next year’s meeting at Durgapur, PaschimBanga (West Bengal) jointly
managed by Durgapur and Bankura centers.
The meeting ended with a
lunch, and earlier provided breakfast and tea. Money saved from the
registration was donated to OAR for their street children project which was
further enhanced with a donation from this writer. (On January 19, 2017 OAR project
was visited by Mrs. Pratima Roy Chowdhury and this writer.)
